Thompson rose to fame as a top goal kicker for Hawthorn in the early Naughties.

After entering first class football in 1998 with the Hawks, Thompson left the club to join North Melbourne for the 2005 season.

He eventually retired in 2008 after playing a total of 189 games in the AFL.
